Shakti

April 12, 2022 2 min read

From ancient times until this date, Hinduism has come to be known as a religion with the most powerful divine feminine, orShakti. Shaktiis the manifestation of divine energy personified by various Hindu Goddesses. One of many is Goddess Durga, an epitome of strength and power, who is worshipped as the protector from and destroyer of evil. In a world full of ordeals, evil deeds and a patriarchal society, Goddess Durga has come to be looked upon as she,who embodies the destructive aspects of Shakti as well as the creative and auspicious powers of Shakti.

Like every woman who manifests and carries Shakti, this exquisite piece of jewellery remains no different. It is to be said in the Hindu Mythology that Goddess Durga was majorly created by three gods - Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva who coalesced their features and powers to defeat the demon Mahishasura. As Goddess Durga is depicted with eight or ten arms, this exquisite pair of earrings also represents each arm holding a special weapon bestowed upon by one of the gods. One piece of the earring displays weapons such as a mace, sword, andSudarshana Chakra while the other piece of earring displays Goddess Durga holding weapons such as aTrishul or trident, conch, bow and arrow. The aforementioned concept conveys the idea that one weapon cannot destroy all the different kinds of enemies.

Another key feature of such a representation is the two other arms. The stature of one of the four arms is a palm facing forward which depicts her love and blessings. The other arm holds a lotus which is not fully bloomed and symbolises wisdom, as well as liberation. Such intricate details have been made prominent by the designers and have been beautifully executed by the craftsmen.

With generations that have gone, and generations that are yet to come,

As long as there are women who believe in divine energy, they will continue to inherit and carry them. OurShaktiearring is a homage to all such women who are prowesses, battling the difficulties with their only two arms and a great deal of solidity.
